ISOC Haiti announces the nomination of its ten (10) community Internet network projects targeting access in rural areas in partnership with the Internet Society Foundation, CONATEL, Transversal Foundation by the World Summit on the Information Society of this year. 1,049 projects were submitted and 20 in each of the 18 WSIS action lines were nominated. The WSIS Awards competition was developed in response to requests from WSIS stakeholders to create an effective mechanism to evaluate projects and activities that harness the power of information and communication technologies (ICT) to make advance sustainable development. Since its inception, the SMSI Awards competition has attracted more than 300,000 stakeholders.
Following the results of the global review of the WSIS by the United Nations General Assembly (Res. A/70/125) which called for close alignment between the WSIS process and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Res. . A/70/1), the WSIS Prize represents the unique global platform to identify and showcase success stories in implementing the WSIS Action Lines and SDGs.
The WSIS 2024 Awards Ceremony will announce the winners at the WSIS+20 Forum high-level event, which will be held in Geneva from May 27-31. The most voted projects in each category will be examined by the SMSI 2024 Awards expert group during the selection phase, in order to determine the winner.
The online public vote is open to everyone until March 31, 2024 to choose the winners.
