A decree published in the official newspaper of the Republic, Le Moniteur, this Wednesday, June 19, confirmed the appointment of Normil Rameau to the position of director general of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) following the last council of ministers. Emmanuel Pierre was also appointed director general of civil protection.
The decision is now made: Normil Rameau takes command of the Haitian National Police, an appointment made official yesterday following the council of ministers. This choice was welcomed by various human rights organizations, notably the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH).
Rameau previously held this position under the administration of Jovenel Moïse, during which Joseph Jouthe was prime minister. At this time he had been the subject of public criticism from Jouthe, who was dissatisfied with his performance.
The new commander-in-chief of the PNH replaces Frantz Elbé in this position. The latter was strongly criticized at the head of the police institution because of his catastrophic results.
