A robot from Gumi Municipality in South Korea that helped Gumi residents with administrative tasks reportedly committed suicide » by throwing himself from a staircase, reports several international media, including 20 minutes.
The machine, found inert at the bottom of a staircase on Thursday, June 20, was acting strangely before its fall. According to witnesses, it “went around in circles as if something was wrong.”
The South Korean press made a big deal out of it, ironically asking whether the tasks assigned to the machine were too hard, insinuating that a surplus of work was the cause of this tragic event.
Authorities have opened an investigation to try to understand what happened.
“Parts have been collected and will be analyzed ” said an official.
The robot was like a full-fledged employee of the city hall and “worked from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.” The machine, developed by the Californian company Bear Robotics, was autumn. It could call the elevator, for example.
For the moment, the municipality of Gumi does not know what pushed the Android to act in this way.
