The Haitian National Police have launched search notices to find all prisoners escaped from the national penitentiary and the civil prison of Croix-des-Bouquets

In a press release published on its Facebook page, the Haitian National Police announced that it had issued these wanted notices following the period of crisis during which armed gangs destroyed the national penitentiary and the civil prison of Croix-des-Bouquets, allowing the escape of all the inmates.

This decision follows a workshop chaired by the Director General of Police, Frantz Elbe, on Sunday April 5, 2024. The objective was to strengthen the security system in prison facilities and find prisoners who escaped during several escapes orchestrated by armed bandits in various civilian prisons.

Effort intensified to find inmates after devastating gang attacks

Following this workshop, the Chief of Police gave formal instructions to several units and departmental directorates of the Police in order to find and return to detention all individuals escaped from prisons such as the National Penitentiary, the Prison of the Croix-des-Bouquets, Cabaret and Port-de-Paix, during the recent invasions.

Furthermore, the police are seeking cooperation from the population. “We ask citizens who spot any of the individuals on this list to be cautious and report their location to the Police”indicates the press release.

It should be recalled that during the night of Saturday March 2, 2024, gangs attacked the national penitentiary in downtown Port-au-Prince, allowing the escape of approximately 3,000 inmates. A similar action also took place at the Croix-des-Bouquets civil prison, where more than 1,500 inmates were released.
