Since the start of the gang war, public buildings attacked have been forced to close their doors.

Only the Bank of the Republic of Haiti is still standing, it is through his words that a source close to the institution describes to us the chaotic situation which has reigned in Port-au-Prince for two months now.

The Hospital of the State University of Haiti (HUEH), the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Court of Cassation , the Superior Court of Auditors and Administrative Litigation (CSC/CA), the National Theater, the Ministry of Communication, the National Commission for Public Procurement (CNMP), the National Library and the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and of Rural Development (MARNDR) are among the public administration institutions that have been forced to close their doors.

“For several weeks, we have had difficulty getting to the office,” relates an employee of the Ministry of Commerce whose office is located at Champ de Mars. No one would have imagined that the bandits, she adds, could one day chase us away given the position of this institution close to the Port-au-Prince police station.

This is the same opinion of a nurse working at the Hospital of the State University of Haiti. “Despite all the efforts made by the managers and staff of the general hospital, we are forced to flee the space in order not to expose ourselves in this area which has become, in a short time, a war zone,” explains Marceline Gervais who has worked in this establishment for five years.

This space which also houses the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (FAMV) is no longer under the control of government authorities.

In a bank branch in Delmas, two members of this structure explain the scene of a group of bandits in the area demanding a ministry executive to give him the key to a service vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture. So a return to these places is not possible at the moment.

Furthermore, located a little further east of the Champ de Mars, certain institutions such as the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security are functioning as best they can, the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration and the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) too.
