After the publication of the decree establishing the Presidential Council, the outgoing government invites the personalities designated to be members of the said structure to submit their documents in accordance with article 2 of the decree.
“Following the commitments made by the Prime Minister, Dr Ariel Henry, the Government of the Republic announces that the Decree establishing the Presidential Transitional Council was adopted by the Council of Ministers and published today Friday April 12, 2024 in the official journal Le Monitor,” reads the government press release published Friday afternoon.
“The personalities designated by the stakeholders to be part of the said Council, are invited to submit to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers the documents required in accordance with article 2 of the aforementioned decree”, continues the note, specifying that “the documents must be deposited in a sealed envelope, either at the National Palace or at the Prime Minister’s Office, Villa d’Accueil, in Bourdon.”
For information, here is what article 2 of the decree says:
Article 2.- In addition to the conditions prescribed by article 135 of the Constitution, no one may be part of the Presidential Transitional Council:
1) if he is currently the subject of a criminal charge or prosecution, or if he has been convicted in any jurisdiction;
2) if he is the subject of a sanction by the United Nations;
3) if he is a candidate in the next elections in Haiti;
4) if he opposes Resolution 2699/2023 of the United Nations Security Council authorizing the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission.
