The Vive Haiti Livre Saint-Marc Festival celebrates resilience and Haitian culture

Saint-Marc was recently the scene of the ninth edition of the Vive Haïti Livres Festival, a flagship event for book lovers in Haiti, which took place on April 19 and 20, 2024. Organized by the Vive Haïti Livres Association at the Reading and Reading Center AnimationCulturelle (CLAC) of Saint-Marc, this festival has sweetened a vibrant space of discussions, exhibitions and performances dedicated to Haitian literature.

Under the theme “Dream, Hope, Resist”, the festival highlighted the diversity and richness of the country’s literary culture through a series of activities spread across several sites, including the CLACs of Gros-Morne, Dessalines, Coteaux, and Camp Coq . Each location offered its own range of events, from book talks to exhibitions paying tribute to the writer Yanick Lahens, thus enriching the overall literary experience of the festival.

With an impressive participation of 36 guests, three workshops and activities spanning ten cultural venues across the country, as well as a digital platform, the ninth edition of the Vive Haïti Livres Festival not only succeeded in captivating the collective imagination but also in asserting the place of literature in the cultural resilience of Haiti.

Bethlyne Clervoix, coordinator of the festival in Saint-Marc, stressed the importance of keeping this cultural heritage alive in the city, particularly during the festival period of the commune of Saint-Marc. This vision is also shared by Peterson Saint-Fleur, departmental coordinator of the Association Vive Haïti Livres dans l’Artibonite, who sees this festival as an essential platform for the promotion of culture and education.

Between the activities of the members of the Association Vive Haïti Livres, the interventions of FrenotCajuste, Erick Toussaint, WednyBezil, MirvensAltenorou the participation of Patrick Cephacil, Marcus Augustin and the performances of Jade and Batranbou, Saint-Marc had part of literary celebration for the celebration of its patronal feast on April 25.
