Organized in a hurry, the Republican Front blocked the National Rally and its allies during the second round of the legislative elections on Sunday, July 7. Against all expectations, the New Popular Front came out on top by a small margin, with an estimated 177 to 192 deputies. The turnout for this second round reached 67.1%, a level slightly higher than the first round and unheard of since 1997.
The presidential bloc united under the banner Ensemble loses the relative majority it held from 2022 to 2024, with between 152 and 158 elected representatives. The National Rally, for its part, improves its score with an estimate of 138 to 145 deputies, but fails to obtain the majority.
The question of the future government remains open, with potential negotiations between the left and the centre, while President Emmanuel Macron holds the power to appoint the prime minister.
