It is an essential product to protect the skin from ultraviolet rays : Sun cream. Whether for daily life, on vacation or during outdoor physical activities, it is recommended to protect your skin from the sun. The absence or poor protection from the sun increasing the risk of sunburn, skin aging or even cancer. As the Foundation for Medical Research (FRM) points out, more than 80% of skin cancers are linked to excessive exposure to the sun.

THE sunscreens therefore offer different levels of protection. From “weak” has “very high”. These indications are indicated using the protection factor (SPF)also called indice de protection (IP), noted on the product label. But in his number of the month of May, the magazine UFC-Que Choisir notes that several sun creams do not respect the displayed level of protection, the latter being measured in the laboratory.

Facial sun cream SPF 50: 4 products had a protection level of index 30

Those are “disturbing results” published by the magazine UFC-Que Choisir. Indeed, after having analyzed in the laboratory 13 facial sun creams, labeled SPF (sun protection factor) 50 or 50+, i.e. the highest level of protection, “a third of these products do not provide the level of protection displayed”. More precisely, according to the magazine, these were five of the products analyzed. Among them, 4 products had a protection level of index 30.

The Association also points out certain components of sun protection and their effects on the environment. In fact, 10 out of 13 products presented components “having harmful effects on aquatic organisms”. However, the magazine UFC-Que Choisir notes the presence of“images of corals accompanied by falsely reassuring words” for the consumer.

Also, in view of these results, theUFC-Que Choisir specifies in its May issue put “requires manufacturers to make their products conform to the indices displayed or, failing that, to withdraw their products”. In addition, the Association refers the matter to the General Directorate for Competition and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) and calls for sanctioning “brands marketing such products”, as well as intensifying controls.

Finally, “the Association urges the Ministry of the Environment on the need to regulate environmental claims for cosmetic products”.
