At least 2 prisoners killed, around ten injured and 3 police officers injured during an escape attempt at Hinche civil prison
This Sunday, April 28, 2024 in the morning, an escape attempt at the Hinche civil prison caused the death of two (2) prisoners, around ten injured people and three (3) agents of the National Prison Administration (APPENA) came out injured, confirmed Simone Jean, a local journalist.
According to information provided by local authorities, these prisoners tried to escape using knives, spoons and other sharp objects. Accompanied by the Government Commissioner of Hinche, Me Marlène Jean, a Justice of the Peace made the observation and ordered the removal of the bodies. In the meantime, the injured are receiving treatment in a hospital center in the city.
It should be noted that this act occurred at a time when APENA agents observed a three (3) day strike to demand that the authorities send food to prisoners living in inhumane conditions.
