The Haitian National Police made the decision to cancel the celebrations planned to mark its 29th anniversary, this Wednesday, June 12, following the tragic loss of three police officers from the Anti-Gang Tactical Unit (UTAG).

In a press release issued on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, the Haitian National Police indicated that instead of the festivities initially planned, they will observe a day of contemplation to honor the memory of the fallen police officers. The theme chosen for this day is “Honoring sacrifice and dedication to better protect”.

The press release also specifies that the High Command will lay a wreath at the Stele to commemorate all the police officers who lost their lives while serving their country.

In response to this tragic event, Prime Minister Garry Conille publicly condemned the attack in a video broadcast on the Prime Minister’s official platforms on Monday June 10. He strongly criticized the act of armed bandits of the criminal organization Viv Ansanm, emphasizing the importance of supporting law enforcement in their fight against crime.
