At least 1,436 people, not involved in the ongoing violent exchanges, have been victims in Haiti. Thus, 686 were killed, 371 injured and 379 kidnapped between January 1 and February 29, 2024, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. During this same period, no less than 695 gang members were killed or injured, bringing the total number of people affected by armed violence to 2,131.

THE HAITI FACTOR, March 28, 2024._The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) published this Thursday, March 28, its report on the violence orchestrated in Haiti by armed bandits from January to February 2024.

According to the United Nations, from January 1 to February 29 of the current year, at least 1,436 people, not involved in the ongoing violent exchanges, were victims of gang abuses.

Of the 1,436 cases of human rights violations recorded, 686 people were killed, 371 injured and 379 kidnapped, among others, according to the monthly report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

In addition, some 695 gang members were killed or injured during this interval, United Nations Commissioners reported.

In sum, 2,131 people (simple uninvolved citizens + armed bandits) are affected from January to February 2024, or more than 40% compared to the number recorded during the previous two months.

It should also be remembered that from March 8 to 20, 2024, the IOM said it observed the travel movements of 33,333 people leaving the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince, taking the risks of passing through roads controlled by gangs. This data is collected at several of the most used bus stations in the capital.
