P-au-P, July 1, 2024 [AlterPresse] — The police station in Gressier (about thirty km south of Port-au-Prince) was once again stormed on Sunday, June 30, 2024, by armed bandits, while Kenyan police officers are in Haiti to help the Haitian National Police (PNH) fight against armed gangs, according to information gathered by the online agency AlterPresse.

Several defenseless residents of Gressier were shot dead in their homes by armed attackers, according to initial information.

A public transport driver, providing the Jacmel/Port-au-Prince route, was shot dead, then his body burned by these armed bandits, early this Monday, July 1, 2024, in this context of gang terror in Gressier.

This driver, known as “Francin”, who was trying to pass through secondary roads in Gressier, accidentally came across bandits, who shot him several times and then burned his body, indicates the spokesperson for the Association of Owners and Drivers of Haiti (Apch), Petrus Lérice on his X account.

The minibus, which the victim was driving, is under the control of armed gangs, he adds.

“This heinous assassination adds to the list of victims in the transport sector in Haiti,” wrote the Haitian Land Transport Sector (STTH) in a tweet.

SOS from Spnh-17 for the Gressier police station

On its X account, the Haitian National Police Union (Spnh-17) is calling for help from the police authorities in the face of armed bandits who continue to terrorize the residents of Gressier.

During an armed attack, perpetrated on the evening of Friday May 10, 2024, armed gangs attacked the police station in Gressiercontrol of which was regained on Sunday May 12, 2024, by the national police.

A public transport driver, commonly known as “Guillon”, who was not far from the police station in Gressier, was injured by two bullets on Saturday May 11, 2024, Apch reported.

“These acts must stop. The population is tired of being victims of insecurity,” declares Spnh-17, calling on the police high command, led by the new interim director general Rameau Normil, to quickly carry out a major operation to combat the armed gangs and regain control of all police stations under the influence of bandits.

Spnh-17 urges Normil to rid the police institution of all departmental directors and other police officers, who are in collusion with armed gangs, with a view to ensuring the success of possible police operations.

Changes in the departmental police departments

On the instructions of the new interim director general of the Haitian National Police (Pnh), Rameau Normil, Inspector General Smith Péyo proceeded, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, to the installation of the new departmental director of West- 1, divisional commissioner Julbert Conseillant as well as the new departmental director of West-2, divisional commissioner Xavier Séide.

Conseillant and Séide replace, respectively, the divisional commissioner Yvon Cantave and the principal commissioner Roger Lamartinière, both transferred to the office of the interim director general of the Pnh.

In an audio message, transmitted to the AlterPresse/AlterRadio platform, the National Union of Haitian Police Officers (Synapoha) welcomes the decision of the general management of the Pnh to install 2 new agents at the head of the West departmental police.

“These changes are part of the strategy of the new interim director general of the police, Rameau Normil, to face the climate of terror established by armed gangs. It is a series of well-calculated changes to resolve the problems linked to insecurity and produce the results that the entire population expects,” considers Synapoha.

Synapoha says it encourages the new police chief to integrate into his team people who have the capacity to take up the great challenge that banditry represents in Haiti. [emb rc apr 1er/07/2024 11:35]
