Brazilian defender Thiago Silva (39) will leave Chelsea at the end of the season after four years spent in west London, the English club announced on Monday, to which the 39-year-old hopes to “return” quickly, in a new role .
The former Seleçao captain has not indicated whether he intends to continue his playing career at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
The international who played for Fluminense and AC Milan joined the “Blues” in August 2020 at the end of the contract linking him with Paris Saint-Germain, his club for eight years.
He has worn the Chelsea jersey 151 times and won three major trophies, the Champions League, the Club World Cup and the European Super Cup in 2021, despite a clean record on the national scene in England.
“Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of only staying for a year, but it ended up being four years,” he said in a video uploaded by the club to intention of the supporters.
During this period, “I always gave the best of myself. But unfortunately, everything has a beginning, a middle and an end,” he continued, holding back his tears with difficulty.
“That doesn’t mean it’s a definitive end. I hope to leave the door open to be able to come back in the near future, even if it’s in another role,” slipped the Brazilian international, speaking in his native language.
