The first area of the 2024 hurricane season that shows signs of possible tropical development is highlighted by the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
An area of low pressure located 900 miles northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing persistent thunderstorm activity. It is moving southwest at 10-15 mph into an area of greater wind shear, which is expected to weaken or even completely dissipate the system.
It is located far out in the Eastern Atlantic and has a very low probability, 10%, of developing over the next 2 to 7 days. It likely poses no risk to the United States.
