Two new US Army planes at Toussaint Louverture International Airport CP: via X Wendell Theodore
Two US Army cargo planes landed on the tarmac at Toussaint Louverture International Airport this Thursday, April 25, 2024.
This is the second flight of American military equipment recorded in Haiti this week, the first having marked the first plane flight over Haiti since the beginning of last March.
The Southern Command of the American army had specified that this first flight was to ensure the transport of support personnel and reinforcement of security for the American embassy in Haiti.
We are awaiting more information on this morning’s flights from the United States Embassy in Port-au-Prince. In the meantime, let us point out that the landing of American army planes at the country’s largest airport takes place in a context marked by the installation, this morning at the National Palace, of the Presidential Transitional Council. PM Ariel Henry officially submitted his resignation and Finance Minister Michel Patrick Boisvert was appointed interim Prime Minister.
The cancellation of commercial flights to Haiti since the beginning of March was the consequence of attacks by armed individuals against the airport, shooting at a plane and injuring individuals, in a general context where gangs were attacking strategic state institutions in the objective, they argued, of making the now former Prime Minister Ariel Henry resign.
