Former MP Cholzer Chancy regained his freedom after being heard by the new judge in charge of the misappropriation of public property case at the National Equipment Center (CNE), Merlan Belabre, on Tuesday March 27, 2024.
This release was granted in accordance with article 80 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, for humanitarian reasons, after approximately two months of detention.
Investigating judge Belabre made this decision following a request for release filed by Cholzer Chancy’s lawyers, who have taken charge of his defense since the start of this case.
Cholzer Chancy, former president of the Chamber of Deputies, was placed in detention in connection with this case which was inherited by Judge Belabre at the end of the mandate of his predecessor, Al Duniel Dimanche.
